LifeBac
Effortless Control Over Alcohol

Anxious? Racing thoughts?

“My mind’s always thinking about everything…”
“Always thinking about what needs to be done in the next week and always playing it out and kind of always just staying a little… maybe on edge that way…”
“I can’t let something go, if that makes sense…”
“Once I wake up… I just run through all the scenarios in my mind constantly…”
“I don’t want to be alone with my own thoughts… why am I still awake?… shut up, brain. Just please shut up.”

Alcohol really helps.

“Definitely the drinking is like self-medicating… I don’t want to be alone with my own thoughts… and it’s mostly when I need to start getting active in the evening — cook dinner, set the table, get everyone fed.”
“I find that around the yard I’m able to get more, more yard work done when I do it…”
“Once I get to a certain point… it almost feels like I could just keep going and going… it’s like a second wind almost… No need to stop now.”
“Right around probably 2 o’clock I start watching the clock. It’s like I won’t start drinking until 4.”

We get it and we make it simple for you.

“You’re much more… in tune to what’s going on.”
“It’s great to hear the reasons behind that… you explained it all. It helps me understand a little better.”
“Otherwise I’m just kind of in the dark to what it’s actually doing or when it works.”
“I’m speaking to a person who understands this really well and understands that there are different types of drinkers and different types of drinking problems.”

LifeBac began serving clients in 2019. More than 6,000 clients later, we’ve heard almost every variation of this problem. Your pattern does not have to look like anyone else’s — we know how to build around very different lives and drinking patterns.

GABA — your nervous system’s brake.

People who regularly drink alcohol have been shown to have lower GABA in key brain regions. GABA is the brain’s natural brake — it helps quiet racing thoughts, reduce anxious arousal and keep the nervous system from running too hard. Alcohol temporarily boosts that braking system. That is one reason a drink can feel like it takes the edge off.

Baclofen is a GABA-B agonist. It activates GABA-B receptors and effectively gives that braking system more help — so you no longer need alcohol to do the same job. LifeBac then works with you to find the dose and timing that keeps baclofen working when your anxiety, cravings and drinking normally show up — without affecting the taste or enjoyment of your favorite beverage.

Baclofen changes how the brain responds to alcohol cues.

Effortless Control.

“The program told me don’t stop drinking… so I kept drinking, but all of a sudden it was like I was drinking less… without even thinking.”
“All of a sudden… I was down to like 2 drinks and not even noticing it… I was like, whoa.”
“It just quiets down the urge to drink.”
“Before you’re on it, you can’t imagine it and then once it happens, you’re like, ‘Oh, this is what they meant.’”
“It’s the real deal. It’s the real deal.”

Trying to limit or plan your drinking keeps alcohol in your thoughts. The aim is for those thoughts to fade and let baclofen do the heavy lifting.

Indifference.

“By the time I finish my drink, it’s like my ice is almost all gone.”
“I just didn’t finish it. I just… poured it out.”
“I actually don’t have a drink in my hand and I’m not craving it.”
“I just didn’t give a sh*t about it anymore. I could take it or leave it.”
“Branding is a big thing around ranchers every spring… all the neighbors come. When I was doing really good, I could go to those parties, have 3 or 4 or 5 beers or whatever, and not worry about it till the next spring at all.”

Built around your life. One-to-one expert management.

“I need to be able to drive. I need to be active, especially in the evening because the evenings are busy, busy.”
“I’ve spent decades in law enforcement… my drinking is at night, when I’m trying to go to sleep and shut my mind off.”
“Now I’m retired… the drinking starts earlier in the day.”
“Especially now my granddaughter lives with me, I’m like trying to sneak it… I know it’s horrible.”

The plan is refined around your real drinking window, work, driving, family, sleep, days off and what actually changes as baclofen starts working.

When the mind quiets down, life comes back.

“I feel like I’m more productive…”
“I’ve been walking every day…”
“I don’t wake up like… my fight or flight reflex is kicked off.”
“It’s given me a quality of life that was not really manageable without it.”
“It makes my life manageable.”
“This got me functional… and my family can attest to that.”

Baclofen vs naltrexone.

For clarity, both published outcomes are shown on a scale of 11 people — the same scale used by the JAMA naltrexone result.

Individually titrated baclofen

100-patient observational study · followed to 2 years
All were treatment-resistant heavy drinkers and high-risk at baseline. None was in remission.
No additional psychological, social or pharmacological treatment was initiated or suggested. Patients were not required to stop drinking first; baclofen was individually increased while they continued living normally.
~9 in 11

were no longer drinking at high-risk levels at 3 months.

~7 in 11 were still out of high-risk drinking at 2 years.
92% experienced an effortless decrease or suppression of alcohol craving.
de Beaurepaire, 100-patient observational study.

Oral naltrexone 50 mg

19 randomized trials · 2,875 participants · most studies about 3–4 months
Many participants entered after a short period of abstinence; within each trial, naltrexone and placebo groups generally received the same background support.
1 in 11

For every 11 people treated with daily naltrexone instead of placebo, one additional person avoided returning to heavy drinking.

Other online programs.

Most other online programs sit at one of two ends of the naltrexone spectrum.

Naltrexone only

Quarterly or annual commitment only. One pill a day. Refills. Little or no managed care.

“No health check-in / follow-up of any kind.”

Naltrexone + coaching / monitoring

Adherence. Accountability. Intervention. Monitoring. Daily texts. Meetings. Alcohol-consumption recording. App data. Breathalyzer checks.

“I don’t want to give my data on my alcohol use to an app… I just thought it was so incredibly invasive.”
“I really appreciate your approach… [it] isn’t trying to… surveil me.”

LifeBac is different.

Baclofen + individualized managed care
= Effortless Indifference

We work with you to find the dose and timing that fit your life and your drinking pattern, then keep refining them as your drinking comes down naturally.

No habit-change work, intrusive monitoring, random breathalyzer calls, daily behavior-change texts, adherence policing or unnecessary meetings.

We let baclofen do the work, not you, with personal managed-care reviews every 2–4 weeks, plus unlimited texting between reviews, to refine dose and timing around your actual response.

“The aim of baclofen treatment is to render the patient ‘indifferent’ to alcohol.”

Indifference is a “complete eradication of obsessional thoughts about alcohol”, with drinking becoming “effortlessly moderated to reasonable levels or to an abstinence which is freely chosen.”

“This means it is no longer necessary to demand strict, lifelong abstinence when treating AUD.”

Baclofen prescription guide / Ameisen model

Baclofen works at GABA-B receptors — in the same GABA braking system that regulates anxious arousal and that alcohol acts on to calm the nervous system. Baclofen is anxiolytic: it reduces nervous-system excitability through GABA-B signaling. For people whose drinking is driven by anxiety, racing thoughts or difficulty switching off, it addresses that driver before the craving-and-reward cycle takes over.

Unlike naltrexone, which works farther down the line at opioid-mediated reward, baclofen acts before the craving-and-reward cycle takes over. With naltrexone, the craving has already happened; the person drinks, receives less reward, and over time the program hopes that changes future drinking. The craving, habits, willpower and struggle still have to be managed along the way.

Effortless Control. No obsessional thoughts about alcohol, no craving driving the next drink, and no willpower struggle.

Indifference. Alcohol becomes something you can take or leave.

Awareness. Notice what changes naturally; tell us; we refine the plan.

Individualized managed care. We work with you during regular review calls to build and refine dose and timing around your actual life and response.

What does drinking cost you now?

Most clients tell us the savings they make from significantly reduced alcohol purchases over time often pay for the program itself.

As drinking comes down, people often notice the change first in their spending: they buy alcohol less often, replace it less often, and start realizing how much money was quietly disappearing every week.

LifeBac is an investment in getting control back — and as your drinking comes down, part or all of that investment can come straight back through lower alcohol spending.
